Chamber 3 · Clause §4
What you do here stays here.
What you do inside Semios stays inside Semios. Your work and your record are yours to keep and yours to take with you.
What exists
Anthropic agreed in 2025 to a $1.5 billion settlement after authors alleged the company trained on millions of pirated copies of copyrighted books.
The Bartz v. Anthropic settlement was the largest AI copyright case of 2025. Adobe, Apple, Salesforce, Google, and Meta faced parallel class actions over training data taken without authorization. An open letter from 800 artists, including Scarlett Johansson and R.E.M., called the practice theft. About 60 active lawsuits were still pending at year-end.

What is possible
Craft guilds protected trade knowledge across centuries. Modern professional bodies still do.
In Europe from the 11th to the 16th centuries, guilds held trade knowledge for their members. The Plantin-Moretus Museum in Antwerp, a UNESCO World Heritage site, preserves the methods of one such guild house. In Ecuador, indigenous groups use trade-secret law to protect traditional knowledge as collective property held by the community, not by any individual. A community can keep its own knowledge.
